There are a lot of people that will believe almost anything they read in the newspaper or on websites. A topic that seems to have their fair share of believers and non-believers is the horoscope. Sometimes, we read our horoscope and, if we don’t like what it says, we tend to say that it’s wrong. But when it says something that is convenient for us, we cross our fingers and hope that it’s true. But are horoscopes actual science or simple fiction?
The following is an interesting point of view for this query.
Horoscopes: Fact or Fiction?
There is a lot of misinformation out there on the subject of horoscopes. I’ve met people who read their horoscope religiously in the paper every day, often shaping their lives around that tiny generic blurb. Many others say that astrology is not a valid way to determine anything. I’d agree that “what’s your sign?”, a classic pickup line, is an extremely cheesy way to introduce yourself, but is there any truth to the idea that people born under specific astrological time periods have common traits?
Your sign is determined by where the sun falls in your birth chart. The belief is that each sign is a symbol that we pass and engender on our journey to karmic fruition.
How are Horoscopes Decided?
The word “horoscope” refers to the wheeled zodiac of animals that represent the twelve astrological signs. These animals coincided with specific symbolic constellations. They don’t anymore, due to the changing equinoxes. However, the sun and moon still move through the signs each in their turn and it is this that makes astrology continue to be a possibility.
Your sign’s characteristics are determined by its Element and its Quality. The elements are earth, air, fire, and water. The qualities are Mutable, Fixed, or Cardinal.
Your horoscope is determined by the placement of your sign and its angle to the astrological houses on the inner part of the zodiac wheel. There are many different house systems used by different astrologers.
A Personal Choice
This makes finding a horoscope that works for you a personal choice. There are more belief systems than we can imagine out there and each person has to determine for himself what to believe. Astrology is a science of numbers and geometry. It is one of the oldest of the natural sciences, dating back to prehistory.
There is actually no tangible evidence to say that astrology has something to do with our work, our personal life or the way we behave. It really comes down to what you believe. You determine your own reality and how you live your life ‘and the moon and the stars and the sun’ will influence your outcomes only if you let them.
